Introducing Submittal Templates: Save and Reuse Your Submittal Packages
Many fire sprinkler projects use the same core group of products from one project to the next. While each project may require a few different parts, much of the material submittal can often remain the same.
With Submittal Templates, you can now save a configured submittal in Caident and use it as the starting point for future projects.
Instead of rebuilding every submittal package from scratch, load a saved template, make the changes needed for the current project, and build your package.
Why We Added Submittal Templates
For many companies, the products used in fire sprinkler designs are relatively consistent across similar types of projects.
A company designing residential systems, for example, may regularly use the same sprinklers, piping, fittings, valves, and other components. A particular project might introduce a few different products, but much of the material submittal remains unchanged.
Previously, creating a new submittal meant selecting those products again for every project.
Submittal Templates are designed to eliminate that repetitive work.
You can create a submittal with the products your projects commonly use, save that configuration as a template, and reuse it whenever you need to create a similar package. From there, simply add any project-specific products and remove anything that isn’t needed.
The result is an even faster starting point for building your fire sprinkler submittal packages.
How to Create a Submittal Template
You can create a template directly from the Submittal Generator.
1. Configure Your Submittal
Start by creating a submittal as you normally would. Search for and add the product datasheets you want included, select the appropriate pages, and arrange the datasheets in your preferred order.
If you’re creating a template specifically for reuse, consider including the products your team uses most frequently for that particular type of project.

2. Save the Submittal as a Template
Once you have the submittal configured, click Save Template.
Give your template a name that will make it easy to identify later.
For example, you might name templates based on the type of project, system, or another convention that makes sense for your workflow.

Once saved, the template will be available from your Templates page.
View Your Saved Templates
Open Templates from Caident to view your saved submittal templates.
Unlike Custom Datasheets, which are shared across your Caident organization, Submittal Templates belong to the individual user who created them. This allows each user to create templates around their own projects and workflows.

Create a Submittal From a Template
When you’re ready to use a saved configuration, find the desired template and click Use Template.
Caident will load the saved configuration into the Submittal Generator, giving you a starting point for the new package.
From there, customize the submittal for the current project. You can add products that are unique to the project, remove products that aren’t being used, change your datasheet selections, or make any other necessary adjustments.

Once everything is configured for the project, build the submittal package as usual.
Update an Existing Template
Your standard product configurations may change over time. When they do, you don’t have to create an entirely new template.
After loading and modifying a template, select Update Current Template to save the new configuration back to the existing template.
For example, if your company starts regularly using a different sprinkler or fitting, you can update your existing template so the new product is already included the next time you use it.

Create a New Template From an Existing One
Sometimes you may want to keep your original template while creating a variation of it.
After loading an existing template and making your changes, select Save as New Template instead of updating the current one.
This creates a separate template based on your modified configuration while leaving the original unchanged.
For example, you could start with a standard residential template and create separate variations for different project or system types without rebuilding each configuration from scratch.
Start Your Next Submittal One Step Ahead
Submittal Templates are another way we’re reducing the repetitive work involved in creating fire sprinkler material submittals.
Instead of selecting the same products every time you start a new project, you can build reusable configurations around the products you already work with.
Create the template once, load it for your next project, make any project-specific changes, and build your package.
Combined with Caident’s product catalog, Custom Datasheets, page selection, and document organization tools, Submittal Templates make it even easier to go from a list of project materials to a complete, organized submittal package.
