Importing Third-Party Calculations

Beta Feature

If you have existing hydraulic calculations from HASS, AutoSPRINK, or HydraCAD, you can import them into CaidentCalc instead of entering the system again manually. CaidentCalc uses the information from the original calculation to create an editable CaidentCalc project.

Third-party calculation importing is currently in beta. Imported calculations should be reviewed and compared with the original calculation before being used as the starting point for your work.

What you can import

  • HASS: Report PDF or .sdf file
  • AutoSPRINK: Report PDF
  • HydraCAD: Report PDF

Importing a calculation

You can start an import from the Home screen or the File menu. Select the calculation file you want to import, and CaidentCalc will identify the nodes, segments, water supply, calculation areas, and other information needed to recreate the system.

Before creating the project, CaidentCalc will guide you through matching the pipe information from the imported calculation to the pipe table you want to use.

Matching pipe information

The pipe-mapping wizard shows the pipe types found in the imported calculation and lets you choose how each one should be handled.

  • Use an existing pipe: Match the imported pipe to a pipe already available in your selected pipe table. CaidentCalc shows any differences in inside diameter, Hazen-Williams C value, or fitting equivalent lengths so you can review them before making your selection.
  • Import as a custom pipe: Keep the pipe information from the original calculation and add it to the project as a custom pipe.

Once the pipe mapping is complete, CaidentCalc creates the project. If any information could not be imported exactly or needs your attention, Import Notes will identify what should be reviewed.

Reviewing the imported calculation

The imported calculation becomes a regular CaidentCalc project, so you can review and edit it just like a project created directly in CaidentCalc.

After the import, review the imported data and any Import Notes. Then run the hydraulic calculation and compare the CaidentCalc results with the original calculation report before making changes to the system.

Because third-party importing is currently in beta, we recommend carefully reviewing the imported system and verifying the initial CaidentCalc results against the original calculation. This is especially important when importing from PDF reports, where some information may need to be interpreted from the report format.
